Pick up your shoes, brush your teeth, put your scooter away, log out of Facebook!
Log out of Facebook?… As my kids grow up in a world of “always on” they forget that when they walk away from their computer (also our family PC) that up on the top right hand side is a button that called “Log off “. Two very simply but very important words! To start with it’s common courtesy to leave the computer as they found it, which is with all applications shut down. But it is also important for them to learn about protecting their privacy and personal information.
In a busy house like ours where we have lots of my kids friends coming and going, I’m sure a computer found with a Facebook page open and logged in could be seen as a great opportunity to have a bit of fun and write on someone’s wall from that unsuspecting user! Or, for unintended eyes to read personal messages and information.
Both my kids have mobile internet devices which are freely shared amongst their friends as they play the latest downloaded app, which also has access to Facebook. Did they remember to log out before they handed the device over?
So, although it’s a simple tip, it’s an important one and a discipline better learned at a young age, before something, most likely intended to be harmless, could be put into Cyber space and end in tears.
So, as you’re reminding your kids to do their homework, pick up their discarded clothes, feed the dog, it might be good to add – Have you logged out of Facebook
Stay Safe

PS – It’s also a good time to remind your kids about the importance of creating strong passwords and keeping their passwords to themselves.
